If you are looking at this, we are hoping you are thinking about travelling! You have taken the first step to go on an experience that will open your eyes and add priceless value to your life. Prioritising travelling will make you richer in life experiences. So, why do many people say travelling was the best time of their lives?
Hindsight is 20/20 and a lot of elderly people will admit that one of their biggest life regrets is not travelling and not experiencing the world.
British Airways conducted a survey in 2016 asking 2'000 US baby boomers (55 years and over) what they regret. The results found for example:
20% said that not travelling was the biggest regret of their lives
22% said that work commitments prevented them from travelling
63% said they don’t even own a passport
We think of it this way, if you don’t make travel a priority you will probably end up listening to all the excuses you make to not go traveling just yet. Then you will most likely talk yourself out of an amazing experience which would only make you richer instead of staying inside of your comfort zone.
There are always going to be reasons you will find to not travel:
Maybe you think that you will have the opportunity later in life? Unfortunately, we are never guaranteed to live until a ripe old age and to be healthy enough to travel the way we desire.
Travel while you’re young and able because the experience is far more valuable than money will ever be. Cliche, maybe. However, we strongly believe that it’s a mistake to put off traveling in the belief that you can do it when you retire. While we certainly plan to continue to travel after we retire one day, it will be a different way of travelling. We won’t be staying up all night in cheap hostels full of international people enjoying cheap drinks in a cool city. We probably won’t be hiking up mountains and camping with a bonfire in the cold with only $50 in our pockets. If something were to happen later on in life, we will be able to say I have no regrets. We are experiencing the world and taking every opportunity to see as much of its beautiful places as we can.
Travelling is one of the most formative experiences you can have and it might even set the toned for the rest of your life. The beauty of it is that you won’t know what you are missing out on until you go do it. Personally, if we didn’t travel we would have never had the chance to meet each other. Travelling has changed our lives in many ways, it never ceases to amaze us and we now live an amazing life.
